It has been reported that the death toll from the capsizing of a ferry in Guyana has risen to 41.
Guyana Prime Minister Mark Phillips issued a written statement regarding the loss of life on the 'MV Barima' ferry, which capsized on July 19 during its journey from Georgetown to Port Kaituma. Phillips stated that the death toll in the accident has risen to 41, while the number of those rescued has increased to 77. Emphasizing that search and rescue operations continue for those missing due to the capsizing of the ferry, Phillips noted that an investigation into the accident has been launched.
Phillips reported that official records indicated there were 133 passengers on the ferry, but investigations revealed that there were a total of 179 people on board, including 18 crew members.
