Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the decision to appoint Brigadier General Mykhailo Drapatiy, Commander of the Ukrainian Joint Forces, as the Chief of General Staff, replacing Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in a video message shared on his social media account that he met with senior military officials. Zelensky stated that they discussed some planned changes in the Ukrainian General Staff, and he announced the decision to appoint Brigadier General Mykhailo Drapatiy, Commander of the Ukrainian Joint Forces, as the Chief of General Staff, replacing Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Zelensky noted that Syrskyi played an effective role in the defense of the capital Kyiv at the beginning of the war, in the counter-offensive conducted later in the Kharkiv region, and in Ukraine's attacks on Russia's Kursk region. Thanking Syrskyi for his services, Zelensky said, "Tomorrow we will formalize all these decisions."
