Statement from Iran's Foreign Ministry on 'Strait of Hormuz'

According to a statement from Iran's Foreign Ministry, Deputy Foreign Minister Said Hatibzade spoke at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the Southeast Asia Treaty of Amity and Cooperation meeting. Hatibzade stated that the Tehran administration remains committed to diplomacy to prevent the escalation of tensions, emphasizing that his country is committed to real diplomacy, fair dialogue, and the principle of ensuring the peaceful passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, and under no circumstances will allow the US to establish dominance over the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

Hatibzade noted that Iran will not compromise on its national security, stating, "We have the right to legitimate self-defense under the United Nations Charter. We will exercise the right to take defensive measures against the source of threats directed at our country within the framework of international law."
