Trump's Statement on F-35 Sales to Turkey

U.S. President Donald Trump stated regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's opposition to the U.S. selling F-35s to Turkey, “No one can tell me who we should or should not sell to. Turkey is a great ally of ours.”

U.S. President Donald Trump answered questions from the press on the plane from Washington to Michigan. Trump responded to a reporter's question reminding him that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opposed the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey. Trump said, “Turkey has been a great ally for me. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is my friend. No one can tell me who we should or should not sell to. Turkey is a great ally of ours.”

Trump stated that the issues between Turkey and Israel are known by everyone and noted that his visit to Ankara went very well. Trump commented, “Turkey is a great and very strong country. They have a magnificent army, a very large and strong army. They have great equipment.”
