Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Perez-Oliva spoke at the National Assembly of People's Power in the capital, Havana, about the sanctions imposed by the United States on Cuba. Perez-Oliva claimed that more than 7,000 containers, legally purchased in accordance with international trade rules and carrying essential resources for the food, energy, and water sectors, as well as medicines, have been detained at Caribbean ports. Stating that the U.S. has increased pressure on Cuba since the beginning of the year, Perez-Oliva said, "As if the energy blockade imposed on our country wasn't enough, the policy of collective punishment directed at all Cuban people and the increasing pressure is proof of this."
