The death toll in the flood that occurred in Nepal on Wednesday has reportedly risen to 626.
In a statement by the Nepal National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), it was noted that the death toll increased in the flood that started along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers in the Rasuwa region in the north of the country on Wednesday and spread to lower areas. While search and rescue teams continue their efforts in the region, it was reported that the number of people who lost their lives in the flood reached 626, and 2,426 people, including 27 police personnel, are still missing.
The statement indicated that 4,451 people were rescued in operations conducted after the flood, and 101 injured people are being treated in hospitals. It was reported that 15,224 security personnel were assigned to search, rescue, and aid activities. It was conveyed that the teams continue their efforts in coordination with the public to reach the missing and evacuate those stranded to safe areas.
Officials stated that families in high-risk areas have been evacuated and that efforts are ongoing to open roads closed due to flood debris. It was expressed that the death toll could rise further as the number of regions reached by the teams increases.
