Iran: We targeted a US surveillance balloon in Iraq

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps reported that they hit a 'PSS-T' type fixed surveillance balloon belonging to the US army in Iraq's Erbil city with a 'Shahid-136' kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicle.

The Iranian media published a written statement by the Revolutionary Guards. The statement noted that early last Wednesday morning, a 'PSS-T' model surveillance balloon belonging to the US army, deployed around Erbil Airport in Northern Iraq, was targeted and destroyed by 'Shahid-136' unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) of the Revolutionary Guards Air-Space Forces.

It was reported that, unlike traditional flying balloons, the balloon was deployed in a fixed position and used like a watchtower. The statement also claimed that the balloon, approximately 35 meters long, could carry various loads up to 500 kilograms. It was also stated that the targeted balloon could monitor its surroundings 24 hours a day and could generally stay airborne for up to a month.
