Provisional Official Results of Saxony-Anhalt State Parliament Election Announced in Germany

According to the provisional official results announced by the Saxony-Anhalt state election board in Germany, the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party came first by securing 43.8% of the votes. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) emerged as the second party with 17.2% of the votes. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) ranked third with 9.3%. The Green party came fourth with 8.9%, and the Left Party finished fifth with 8.6%. The Alliance for Social Justice and Economic Understanding (BSW) secured 5.3% of the votes, earning the right to enter the parliament. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) received 2.6% of the votes and failed to surpass the 5% threshold.

According to the provisional official results, in the 83-seat state parliament, AfD will be represented by 39 deputies, CDU by 15, SPD, the Greens, and the Left Party by 8 each, and BSW by 5 deputies. In the state parliament where 42 seats are required to form a government, AfD could not achieve a majority on its own. To form a majority government without AfD, CDU, SPD, the Greens, the Left Party, and BSW all need to participate in the coalition.
