U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has instructed the removal of Canadian-origin products from public tenders.
U.S. President Donald Trump, in a post on his social media account, stated that American dairy producers are not allowed to sell to the Canadian market, yet Canada can continue to manufacture automobiles due to trade agreements from previous administrations.
Trump noted that the Canadian government and provinces have banned American small businesses from entering their public tenders, while the U.S. has granted access to Canada in this regard. Trump said, “This is not reciprocity, it is a Canadian trade fraud. From now on, if there is no reciprocity, there will be no access. I have instructed the General Services Administration (GSA) and the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to remove Canadian-origin products from GSA procurement schedules until full and fair reciprocity is provided for American farmers and companies. These procurement programs have a volume of over $50 billion annually, and this access should have been cut off years ago,” he stated.
