Research: Caffeine May Slow Cellular Aging
A study conducted in the UK showed that caffeine could slow the aging process by activating a 500-million-year-old biological mechanism that ensures energy balance and DNA repair in cells.

Scientists from Queen Mary University of London in the UK have revealed that caffeine activates a biological mechanism that maintains energy balance in cells, supports DNA repair, and slows aging. In the international study, the cellular effects of caffeine were examined on yeast models that share fundamental biological similarities with human cells. The study found that caffeine directly stimulates the enzyme system 'AMPK' (AMP-activated protein kinase), which acts as a cellular fuel gauge and maintains metabolic balance.

'ACTIVATING THE CELLULAR ENERGY SWITCH'

Dr. Charalampos Rallis, one of the senior authors of the study, stated that when the energy of cells drops, they activate the 'AMPK' system to survive, saying, “Our results show that caffeine directly helps to activate this cellular switch.”

Dr. John-Patrick Alao from the research team emphasized that caffeine strengthens processes directly linked to aging, such as DNA repair and stress resistance. Alao noted that the discovery could provide a significant foundation for developing treatments aimed at preventing age-related diseases through diet, lifestyle, or next-generation drugs in the future.
