In a statement from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) of the Netherlands, it was reported that since August, 3 people have died due to the virus, and the total number of detected cases has reached 18. The weekly report stated that except for one case identified as part of a scientific study, other patients were diagnosed in hospitals after showing symptoms.
The statement noted that patients contracted the virus from bites of infected mosquitoes in the provinces of Utrecht, North Brabant, North Holland, South Holland, Overijssel, and Gelderland. According to RIVM data, approximately 80% of infections show no symptoms, while 19% exhibit flu-like symptoms. In about 1% of cases, a severe illness with accompanying neurological symptoms develops.
