In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the number of Ebola cases has risen to 8,067, with 3,901 deaths.
According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the number of confirmed cases in the outbreak affecting seven provinces in the country has risen to 8,067, with the death toll reaching 3,901. It was noted that the outbreak is caused by the rare 'Bundibugyo' virus variant, which has no approved vaccine or specific treatment yet, and the mortality rate has exceeded 48%.
The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) announced that 50 healthcare workers have lost their lives since the beginning of the outbreak. Africa CDC reported that the current situation has surpassed the 2014-2016 West Africa regional outbreak, where more than 11,000 people died, in terms of spread rate.
