Azerbaijani families of missing persons meet with European Union representatives in Brussels

On October 21, the European External Action Service (EEAS) hosted a meeting with members of the “Garabagh Missing Families” Public Union in Brussels.

The families of missing Azerbaijanis met with Okke Bouwman, Political Adviser to the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, and Marco Cardinali, Coordinator for Relations with Azerbaijan.

The families stated that Armenia had not provided any information about their missing relatives, even in the post-conflict period.

Konul Behbudova, chair of the “Garabagh Missing Families” Public Union, noted that on October 20, Azerbaijani families of missing persons had staged a protest at Place du Luxembourg in Brussels, in front of the European Parliament, and adopted a statement.

She also emphasized that Armenia bears full responsibility for clarifying the fate of missing Azerbaijanis and is obligated to provide Azerbaijan with information about the locations of mass graves.

Behbudova described the discovery of 32 mass graves to date in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories as only a small part of a much larger humanitarian tragedy.

The meeting also highlighted that the protest over the fate of missing Azerbaijanis was followed by another demonstration held at Schuman Square, in central Brussels, on October 21.
