Qatar to Purchase 3 Million Tons of LNG Annually from the US for 20 Years
Qatar has signed an agreement with an Australia-based company to purchase 3 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually from the Louisiana LNG project in the US for 20 years.

QatarEnergy has signed a long-term sale and purchase agreement with Australia-based Woodside Energy to buy 3 million tons of LNG annually from the Louisiana LNG project, located on the Gulf of Mexico coast in the US and currently under construction. According to the terms of the agreement, deliveries will be made on a 'delivered ex-ship' basis and are expected to start in 2030, continuing for 20 years. It was noted that the Louisiana LNG project, from which LNG will be supplied under the agreement, is under construction near Lake Charles in the state of Louisiana. The core project includes three production lines with a total annual capacity of 16.5 million tons and aims to achieve its first LNG production in 2029.

The signing ceremony was attended by Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of QatarEnergy, and Liz Westcott, CEO of Woodside Energy. Speaking at the ceremony, Al-Kaabi said, “We are pleased to further develop our global supply and trading portfolio with another long-term LNG purchase from the US. These additional volumes position QatarEnergy as the largest LNG buyer from the US and place us in a stronger position to meet the growing global demand for LNG. Our Golden Pass LNG project and expanding LNG purchase portfolio from the US reinforce QatarEnergy's leadership in the LNG sector and support our long-term growth and diversification strategy.”
