A delegation led by Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB), participated in the Tianguis Turístico México 2026 held in Acapulco, co-organized by the Mexican Secretariat of Tourism (SECTUR) and the Government of the State of Guerrero.
As part of the fair, the Azerbaijani delegation met with Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, Head of the Unit of Innovation, Sustainability, and Professionalization in Tourism of SECTUR, and Juan Carlos Arno Ávila, Vice President for Foreign Relations of the Mexican Federation of Tourism Associations.
The sides discussed tourism cooperation opportunities and agreed to maintain contacts for the development of future relations. The Mexican side also invited Azerbaijan to participate in the ITB Americas exhibition, to be held in Guadalajara from November 10 to 12.
Azer Abasaliyev, Regional Manager for Europe at the Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB), highlighted Azerbaijan’s tourism potential at an event titled “One City, One Dish, One Story,” organized by the National Association of Mexican World Heritage Cities (ANCMPM).
He spoke about the inclusion of Icherisheher, along with the Maiden Tower and the Shirvanshahs’ Palace Complex, in the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as modern architectural landmarks such as the Heydar Aliyev Center and the Flame Towers, alongside destinations including Gobustan, the Ateshgah Temple, the Sheki Khan’s Palace, and the village of Khinalig.
Azer Abasaliyev also emphasized the declaration of 2026 as the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” in Azerbaijan, as well as the significance of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), to be held in Baku from May 17 to 22.
Supported by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Mexico, the national stand featured photographs showcasing the blend of antiquity and modernity in Baku, national souvenirs, traditional sweets, and promotional materials on Azerbaijan’s tourism potential and WUF13. The stand attracted strong interest from participants.
The Tianguis Turístico México serves as a key platform for presenting Mexico’s tourism opportunities to domestic and international participants and is considered one of the most important events in the country’s tourism sector. This year, the 50th edition brought together nearly 2,500 participants from more than 90 countries, further expanding the scope of the exhibition.
