The ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff (CCDC) announced that they will hold an extraordinary meeting in Ghana today and tomorrow for the decision of the ECOWAS Special Forces (ESF), headquartered in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, to intervene against the junta government in Niger. "ECOWAS Chiefs of Staff will meet in Accra to discuss the deployment of the ESF to the Republic of Niger," the statement said yesterday. This meeting of the commanders was previously scheduled for Saturday 12 August, but was postponed in order to exhaust diplomatic means to restore constitutional order in Niger Republic.
At the meeting held by the ECOWAS heads of state on 10 August, the CCDC had put the ECOWAS Reserve Forces on standby for the restoration of constitutional order in the Republic of Niger in case of any need for intervention.
