Türkiye aims to increase trade with Azerbaijan, says minister

Türkiye and Azerbaijan, guided by “One nation, two states" principle, continue to translate their shared commitment into tangible projects. Our countries maintain close cooperation across all areas, actively enhancing collaboration in agriculture, industry and trade. Ankara is ready to expand the framework of the Preferential Trade Agreement with brotherly Azerbaijan, with technical discussions currently underway on this issue, Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat told journalists in Ankara.

The Turkish minister hailed the close dialogue with Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov, noting that a delegation led by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz will visit Azerbaijan in the coming days to participate in the 2nd Azerbaijan-Türkiye Investment Forum, which is set to be held in Baku on December 22-23.

“As part of the visit, a meeting of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye Intergovernmental Economic Cooperation Commission is also planned to be held, with several documents scheduled to be signed Baku,” the Turkish minister noted.

The minister also stressed the importance of the 2nd Azerbaijan-Türkiye Investment Forum, recalling his participation in the first forum.

Minister Ömer Bolat mentioned that Türkiye has invested $17 billion in the economy of Azerbaijan, while Azerbaijan invested $21 billion in Türkiye’s economy.

The Turkish Minister of Trade commended the fact that the trade between Azerbaijan and Türkiye reached a record level - $8 billion according to the results of 2024.

He also highlighted the contributions of the current agreements between Türkiye and Azerbaijan to the restoration of the liberated territories.

According to the minister, the Zangezur corridor will make a significant contribution to Türkiye’s trade and economic relations with Azerbaijan and other Turkic states.

Ömer Bolat underscored that the opening of Zangezur Corridor will significantly boost Türkiye's trade with the Turkic states.

He noted that as of 2024, Türkiye’s total trade with the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) has already reached $29 billion, adding that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan set the target to increase the country’s foreign trade with the Turkic states up to $60 billion in the medium term.
