As part of its cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Azerbaijan will host World Environment Day (WED) under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future” in Baku on June 5 this year.
Azerbaijan took over the World Environment Day baton during the event hosted in the Republic of Korea in 2024.
Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, World Environment Day is a global platform for environmental protection that brings together millions of people worldwide.
Azerbaijan continues its efforts to expand protected natural areas, preserve biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and combat climate change. As a party to the Paris Agreement, the country has also committed to reducing emissions and actively expanding its renewable energy sector.
Building on the momentum created by hosting COP29, Azerbaijan aims through this event to further strengthen international cooperation and translate environmental commitments into practical action.
Azerbaijan, jointly with UNEP, calls on all parties to join World Environment Day and unite for the protection of the environment.
