“Today, within the framework of WUF13, the role of demining in post-conflict urban planning activities was discussed. I believe the discussions were very interesting,” said Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), in a statement to journalists during the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
He noted that activities in Azerbaijan are being carried out in accordance with the Great Return Program, and that all work is conducted only after demining operations are completed.
“Currently, our villages and cities in the liberated territories are being restored, and internally displaced persons are returning to their native homes. From November 2020 to the present, more than 270,000 hectares of territory have been cleared, and more than 250,000 mines and unexploded ordnance have been detected and neutralized,” Suleymanov said.
