“In urban planning, housing policy cannot be considered separately from employment, transport, and care services,” said Maria Mercedes Jaramillo Garcés, Bogota's former Planning Secretary, during the roundtable discussion titled "Adequate housing for gender equality and the empowerment of women," held as part of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).
Maria Mercedes Jaramillo Garcés emphasized that housing models must be tailored to diverse social and economic contexts. She noted that Bogotá has introduced care centers under gender-focused policies, stressing that balancing the needs of different social groups remains a key challenge in metropolitan planning.
