According to a statement from Bakersfield police, teams were dispatched to the scene following a bomb threat at a downtown bank branch around 1:00 PM local time. Upon reaching the bank, police teams determined that a man had locked himself inside the building with many people.

Officials announced that after negotiations, two of the hostages were released, and the remaining hostages were in good health. The statement noted that negotiations with the suspect were ongoing, some roads in the area were closed to traffic, and many buildings were evacuated.
