The areas affected by drought conditions in England have been expanded, officially declaring drought for two-thirds of the country.
The England National Drought Group, comprising the Environment Agency and other government officials, sector and farmer representatives, held a meeting yesterday. According to the decision made at the meeting, East Midlands, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, Kent and East Sussex, as well as Solent and South Downs, were added to the regions affected by drought in England. Thus, drought was officially declared for 71.3% of England. The Environment Agency had declared drought for half of England and Wales, including the entire capital London, at the end of July.
