AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” column turns its spotlight on the Jidir Duzu plain.
The city of Shusha, in addition to its historical, cultural, and architectural monuments, also draws attention for its picturesque nature. Those traveling to Shusha definitely visit the Jidir Duzu plain to admire the ethereal vistas that open up.
The Jidir Duzu plain, one of the most famous natural and recreational spots in Shusha, is nestled on the southern edge of the city, at an altitude of 1300–1340 meters above sea level. Since the time of the Karabakh Khanate, horse races, national chovgan games, Novruz celebrations, pahlavan (wrestling) shows, poetry gatherings, spectacles, and other large public events have been held here.
From the Jidir Duzu plain, one can see the Topkhana forest straight ahead. Below lies the Dashalti canyon, where the Dashalti (Gargar) River flows like a silver ribbon. The plain is surrounded by Uch Mikh Mountain of the Lesser Caucasus, Aghziyasti Cave, and Khazna Rock.
The beauty of the surrounding cliffs, with the sun casting a golden glow over the majestic mountains and lush green forests, creates a harmonious and captivating scene. The landscapes formed by snow and fog in winter, colorful flowers in spring and summer, and golden forests with rosehip and hawthorn bushes growing among the rocks in autumn soothe the soul and bring inner tranquillity.
The museum-mausoleum complex of Molla Panah Vagif, the Azerbaijani poet, public and political figure, and vizier of the Karabakh khan, is also located near the Jidir Duzu plain.
