A special postage stamp prepared on the initiative of the Gilavar Photo Club Public Union to mark the 165th anniversary of Azerbaijani photography.
The stamp, designed by “Azerpoçt” LLC, one of the companies under AZCON Holding, features some of the first known photographs taken in Azerbaijan as part of its design.
The postage stamp preserves historical images associated with the origins of Azerbaijani photography through philately. Featuring one of the most significant visual examples from the early development of photographic art in Azerbaijan, the stamp highlights the country’s rich photographic heritage and supports its international promotion.
Printed by Belgium Post, the stamp was issued as a souvenir sheet with a print run of 4,000 copies.
Azerbaijani photography traces its origins to 1861, when the first known photographs of the country were taken, depicting panoramic views of Baku Bay from the sea. These historic images mark the beginning of Azerbaijan’s photographic tradition.
