Norwegian born half Azerbaijani musician Marie Sahba earned widespread critical acclaim following the release of her debut album A Billion Years Too Soon in 2024.
She now opens a new chapter in her creative career with Nothing Lasts Forever – the first single from her upcoming sophomore album, which she hopes to present in Azerbaijan in the near future. She has always dreamed of taking the stage in Baku, where many outstanding artists have performed, and finally fulfilling her dream of visiting the land of her ancestors.
The song Nothing Lasts Forever was written after Sahba lost her mother in 2025, just a few years after the death of her father. Out of this grief came a song filled with pain and frustration, but also with a strong desire to live.
“I’m so tired of having to be strong all the time, when illness and death seem to be moving along an endless conveyor belt. Nothing Lasts Forever came from a feeling of wanting to rebel against the whole world because of the immense pain and injustice. At the same time, now more than ever, I want to feel alive and allow myself to enjoy life while I am still young,” Sahba says.
It is precisely this contrast that lies at the heart of Nothing Lasts Forever – inner turmoil and a desire to live, grief and defiance.
On Nothing Lasts Forever, electronic sounds are combined, among other elements, with the sound of the santur, played by acclaimed Norwegian-Iranian composer and musician Javid Afsari Rad, whose work Sahba has admired for many years. Marie Sahba wrote the song and also produced it together with her longtime musical collaborator Martin Vinje. The track was mixed by Matias Tellez and mastered by Brian Lee.
Sahba continues to develop her distinctive sound, combining alternative pop with Azerbaijani musical traditions.
Blending Western pop with Eastern musical traditions, Marie Sahba has established herself both in Norway and on the international stage. Her debut album A Billion Years Too Soon was named one of the best Norwegian albums of 2024. Her songs have received radio airplay both in Norway and abroad, while her music has been featured in productions and campaigns for Netflix, Apple TV+, HBO Max and WWF. Through extensive touring and media coverage, Sahba has also gained an increasingly large audience in Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
Marie Sahba grew up in Trondheim, Norway. Her mother is Norwegian, while her father was from Southern Azerbaijan.
