Anti-immigrant protests in Northern Ireland: Numerous homes and vehicles set on fire
It has been reported that numerous vehicles and homes were set on fire during anti-immigrant protests sparked by the stabbing of an Irish person by a Sudanese asylum seeker in Northern Ireland.
In Northern Ireland, protests erupted across the country starting last night in response to a Sudanese asylum seeker, who was granted asylum status in 2023, stabbing and seriously injuring an Irish person. It was reported that numerous vehicles and homes were set on fire during the anti-immigrant protests.
Deputy Chief Constable Ryan Henderson of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) stated in a written announcement that such large and serious street incidents are not frequently experienced in the country. Emphasizing that many vehicles were set on fire during the incidents, Henderson said, “I urge everyone to remain calm, act responsibly, and avoid actions that would put themselves and others at risk.”
STARMER: PERPETRATORS WILL FEEL THE FULL FORCE OF THE LAW
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that those responsible for the anti-immigrant protests in Northern Ireland will be punished. In a post on his social media account, Starmer described the violent incidents in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, last night as 'shocking and unacceptable.'
Starmer expressed that there is no justification for violence and disorder that threatens the community, stating, “It is clear that people were targeted last night because of their ethnic identities, and I will not tolerate this. The perpetrators will feel the full force of the law.”
