The United Nations World Food Programme reported that over 17 million people in Nigeria are facing the threat of hunger.
The United Nations (UN) World Food Programme (WFP) stated that according to the latest food security analysis, over 17 million people in nine states in northern Nigeria affected by conflicts are facing the threat of hunger. The statement highlighted that this number has increased by approximately 2 million compared to the previous assessment, and it was expressed that $89 million in emergency funding is needed over the next six months to sustain food and nutrition assistance and critical logistical support in northern Nigeria.
The statement noted that aid activities have been disrupted due to security issues and lack of funding, and it was reported that only about 740,000 of the 6.2 million people experiencing food insecurity in three northeastern states have been reached with aid.
