The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Defense announced on its social media account that a missile attack was carried out on UAE-owned tankers named 'Mombasa' and 'Al-Bahia' in the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz, located in Omani territorial waters. It was stated that as a result of the attack, one crew member of Indian nationality on the 'Mombasa' tanker lost their life, and 8 personnel were injured, 4 of them seriously. The statement emphasized that fires broke out on the ships following the attack and damage occurred, but the fires were brought under control.
UAE CONDEMNS IRAN ATTACK TARGETING TWO OIL TANKERS IN STRAIT OF HORMUZ
In a statement made on the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs' social media account, it was stated, "The UAE strongly condemns and protests the Iranian attacks targeting two national oil tankers named Mombasa and Al Bahiyah with two missiles in the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz within the borders of Omani territorial waters."
The ministry noted that this attack by Iran led to the death of one Indian national crew member and injured 8 crew members. It was stated that the condition of 4 of the injured is serious, with 6 of the injured being Indian nationals and 2 being Ukrainian nationals.
The attack was reported to be a clear and grave violation of United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 2817, which emphasizes the freedom of maritime navigation, rejects the targeting of commercial ships, and the sabotage of international sea routes.
