Turkey's Air and Seas Are Warming
In Turkey, where it is claimed that global warming has led to a decrease in water resources, increased risk of severe drought, and forest fires, air and sea water temperatures have also risen compared to 55 years ago. The average temperature, which was 12.7 degrees between 1970-1980 and 1981-1991, increased to 13.1 degrees between 1992-2002, 13.6 degrees between 2003-2013, and 14.4 degrees between 2014-2025.
The average water temperature in Turkey's four seas has increased by about 1.3 to 2.2 degrees compared to 55 years ago. According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the average sea water temperature of the Mediterranean was measured at 21.5 degrees between 1970-2025. Between 1970-2025, the hottest sea water temperature in the Mediterranean was recorded at 23.8 degrees in 2019, and the coldest at 20.6 degrees in 1992.
1.3 DEGREE INCREASE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
The average sea water temperature in the Mediterranean has increased by 1.3 degrees compared to 55 years ago. The evaluation of the Mediterranean from 1970-2025 in five equal periods is as follows:
“The average sea water temperature of the Mediterranean was 21 degrees between 1970-1980. It was 21.1 degrees between 1981-1991, 21.4 degrees between 1992-2002, 21.9 degrees between 2003-2013, and 22.3 degrees between 2014-2025."
45-YEAR INCREASE IN THE AEGEAN OCCURRED IN THE LAST 10 YEARS
The average sea water temperature in the Aegean was recorded at 18.8 degrees between 1970-2025. Between 1970-2025, the hottest sea water in the Aegean was recorded at 19.8 degrees in 2018, and the coldest at 17.7 degrees in 1983. The sea water temperature in the Aegean increased by 0.8 degrees in the last 10 years, which is the amount of increase over 45 years compared to 55 years ago. According to the evaluation of the Aegean from 1970-2025 in five equal periods, the average sea water temperature was 18.2 degrees between 1970-1980, 18.3 degrees between 1981-1991, 18.5 degrees between 1992-2002, 19 degrees between 2003-2013, and 19.8 degrees between 2014-2025.
1.4 DEGREE INCREASE IN THE MARMARA IN THE LAST 10 YEARS
The average sea water temperature in the Marmara Sea was determined to be 15.8 degrees between 1970-2025. The hottest sea water in the Marmara was 18.6 degrees in 2019, and the coldest was 14.4 degrees in 1987. The average sea water temperature in the Marmara increased by 2.2 degrees in the last 10 years compared to the 1970-1980s. The average sea water temperature in the Marmara was measured at 15 degrees between 1970-1980, 15.2 degrees between 1981-1991, 15.4 degrees between 1992-2002, 15.8 degrees between 2003-2013, and 17.2 degrees between 2014-2025.
THE BLACK SEA HAS ALSO WARMED
The average sea water temperature in the Black Sea was recorded at 15.4 degrees between 1970-2025. During this period, the hottest sea water in the Black Sea was measured at 18.5 degrees in 2019, and the coldest at 13.8 degrees in 1987. The average sea water temperature in the Black Sea increased by 0.9 degrees in the last 10 years. The evaluation of the Black Sea from 1970-2025 in five equal periods is as follows:
"The average sea water temperature was 15.1 degrees between 1970-1980, 14.8 degrees between 1981-1991, 14.9 degrees between 1992-2002, 15.6 degrees between 2003-2013, and the average sea water temperature of the Black Sea was 16.5 degrees between 2014-2025."
