On February 1, an international conference titled “Investing in Religious and Media Discourse and Its Impact on the Protection and Promotion of Women’s Rights in OIC Member States” commenced in Cairo.
The conference is held under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and is organized by Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, together with Egypt’s National Council for Women.
The event brings together Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, ministers, ambassadors, religious leaders, and delegations from OIC member states. Azerbaijan is represented by a delegation led by Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs.
During the two-day conference, discussions focus on women’s role in combating religious and ideological extremism, as well as in peace and security; the importance of media, culture, and the arts in shaping public perceptions of women; women’s economic rights, their contribution to GDP, and protection from cyber violence.
The adoption of the “Cairo Declaration” is expected at the conclusion of the conference.
