“Trade and other areas of cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan are being resumed. At the same time, cooperation is increasing at the level of the executive authorities of both countries. Today, cooperation between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Armenia is also expanding. In a region dominated by conflicts, we must support progress between Azerbaijan and Armenia. While we see other countries in the region being drawn deeper into conflict, these two countries are emerging from it and moving in the opposite direction, and we welcome this,” said Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), in a statement to journalists in Baku.
He emphasized that he had very fruitful discussions with the Speaker and members of the Milli Majlis.
“We discussed cooperation between the two institutions — the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis — and agreed that these relations are stable and successful. We are determined to continue and strengthen cooperation across various fields. This is the essence of my multi-day visit to Azerbaijan. I would also like to note that although I am leaving office, I am confident that cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union will continue to strengthen. My successor is also fully committed to the peace agenda we are promoting in the region,” the IPU Secretary General added.
