Chinese President Xi Jinping met with US President Donald Trump, who is visiting China, at the Great Hall of the People in the capital Beijing. During the meeting, Xi stated that the world has reached a new crossroads. Xi said, “Can China and the US overcome the 'Thucydides Trap' and create a new model for relations between major countries? Can they work together to overcome global challenges and bring more stability to the world? Can they focus on the prosperity of the two peoples and the future of humanity to create a bright future for bilateral relations? These are the questions that leaders of major countries must answer together for our era.”

'2026 SHOULD BE A TURNING POINT IN CHINA-US RELATIONS'

Xi stated that the common interests between China and the US are greater than the disagreements, and that the success of both countries is an opportunity for each other, and stable China-US relations benefit the world. Xi said, “We need to be partners, not rivals. We must contribute to each other and achieve common prosperity, paving the way for major countries to coexist correctly in the new era.”

Expressing his hope to exchange ideas with Trump on important issues concerning the two countries and the world, Xi said, “We are ready to guide our bilateral relations well with President Trump and make 2026 a historic and turning point year in China-US relations from past to future.”

XI: CHINA-US ECONOMIC RELATIONS ARE WIN-WIN

President Xi Jinping emphasized that there will be no winners in trade wars, noting that economic and trade relations between China and the US have developed on a win-win basis. Xi stated, “In situations where there are disagreements and frictions, consultation on an equal footing is the only correct choice.”

Xi also commented on Taiwan, stating that this issue is the most important topic in China-US relations. Xi said, “If the Taiwan issue is managed well, bilateral relations can generally remain stable; if managed poorly, conflicts or even disputes may occur between the two countries. This situation could push China-US relations to a very dangerous point.”
