The US State Department announced that the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has been extended by 45 days following talks in Washington.
US State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott made a statement on his social media account regarding the third round of direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, which have been ongoing in Washington for two days. Pigott stated, "The US hosted extremely productive talks between Israel and Lebanon on May 14-15. To allow for further progress, the ceasefire declared on April 16 will be extended by 45 days."
Pigott noted that the political leg of the negotiations will resume on June 2-3 and that a security meeting will be held at the Pentagon on May 29 with the participation of military delegations from both countries. Pigott also conveyed that they believe the talks will contribute to achieving lasting peace between the two countries and the full recognition of mutual sovereignty and territorial integrity.
