Task of forming government in Latvia assigned to Andris Kulbergs
Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics has assigned the task of forming a new government to opposition MP Andris Kulbergs following the resignation of Prime Minister Evika Silina.

After Prime Minister Evika Silina resigned ahead of the parliamentary elections planned for early October in Latvia, President Edgars Rinkevics held meetings with political party representatives and made statements regarding the process at a press conference. Rinkevics announced that after intensive consultations with representatives of political parties and groups in the Parliament in recent days, he assigned the task of forming the government to Andris Kulbergs, a member of the opposition United List Party.

Explaining the reasons for his decision, Rinkevics noted that this situation is linked to the recent political dynamics and the need to offer a new approach to the opposition. Rinkevics also stated that he expects Kulbergs, who has been appointed as the prime ministerial candidate, to present a report on the progress of the process by May 25. It was conveyed that the report should include the general outlines of the coalition to be formed, the distribution of duties among parties, and the draft of the government declaration.
