Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome, the capital of Italy, as part of his official visit to Italy. In a post on his social media account, Modi stated that they have co-authored an article with Meloni about the defining stage reached in India-Italy relations. Modi, who noted that they exchanged views on various topics with Meloni, said, “Ours is a Special Strategic Partnership guided by innovation, shared democratic values, and a common vision for the future. As soon as I landed in Rome, I had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni over dinner, and then we visited the iconic Colosseum. I am looking forward to today’s meetings, where we will continue our conversation on how we can strengthen the friendship between India and Italy.”
Modi, who noted that he will also meet with President Sergio Mattarella during his visit to Italy, said, “This visit will focus on how we can strengthen India-Italy cooperation, especially the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). The Joint Strategic Action Plan for 2025-2029 will also be reviewed. Additionally, I will visit the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Headquarters to reinforce India’s commitment to multilateralism and global food security.”
