US files murder case against former Cuban leader Raul Castro
The US has filed a case against former Cuban leader Raul Castro for 'conspiring to kill US citizens' and other charges related to the 1996 downing of two civilian planes between Florida and Cuba, resulting in the deaths of four people.
Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the indictment, prepared by a grand jury in April and unsealed on Wednesday, at a press conference held at the Freedom Tower in Miami, Florida. The indictment accuses former Cuban leader Raul Castro and five other Cuban military officials of shooting down two unarmed civilian planes belonging to the 'Brothers to the Rescue' group, founded by Cuban-American citizens, in international airspace. Blanche stated that the families of four Americans have been waiting for justice for 30 years, saying, “The US and President Trump do not and will not forget their citizens. If you kill Americans, we will come after you, regardless of who you are, what title you hold, or how much time has passed.”
