Panel session on “Housing at the Intersection of Resource Efficiency and Resilience” held at WUF13

On May 22, an event titled “Housing at the Intersection of Resource Efficiency and Resilience” was held as part of the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.

The session explored the links between innovative design, material recycling, and resilience approaches in order to find practical housing solutions for cities facing climate challenges and resource scarcity.

Speakers at the discussions noted that people often think only about the recycling potential of materials, but do not consider building structures directly from waste itself. People also do not think enough about preventing the waste of energy, materials, and financial resources—that is, about overall resource conservation. This means humanity must shape resource management from a broader perspective, taking into account not only ecological factors but also the social dimension—paying attention to the livelihoods of both urban and rural residents. This approach also requires adherence to the principle of justice and truly long-term thinking.
