Iran: New Talks with the US Planned in the Coming Days
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Bekayi announced that the meeting planned with the US in Switzerland has been postponed, and plans for a new meeting in the coming days are ongoing.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Bekayi announced to journalists that the meeting expected to take place between Iranian and US delegations in Switzerland has been postponed. Bekayi noted that consultations regarding the next phase of negotiations are continuing through mediators, and a new meeting date will be announced once conditions are ripe.
Bekayi stated that the main purpose of the meeting planned for Friday was to sign the memorandum of understanding and address arrangements for final agreement talks. However, he mentioned that after Iranian President Mesud Pezeşkiyan and US President Donald Trump signed the document electronically on Thursday, the urgency of this meeting diminished.
Bekayi reminded that according to the memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the US, the start of negotiations depends on the implementation of relevant provisions. These conditions include the end of war and military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, the lifting of the US naval blockade, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz for free passage of ships for 60 days, the provision of US sanctions exemptions for Iran's crude oil and petroleum derivatives exports, and the release of frozen Iranian assets.
Spokesman Bekayi denied reports that Iran invited the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to conduct inspections at its nuclear facilities, stating that if the preconditions within the memorandum are met, negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear program are planned to take place within 60 days.
Sharing details about the process, Bekayi said, “Iran will maintain its current nuclear status, and IAEA inspections will be limited to facilities like the Bushehr Nuclear Plant.” Bekayi also emphasized that access to other facilities, previously closed due to US and Israeli attacks, will depend on the negotiation process and its outcome.
