US Vice President JD Vance said, “Significant progress has been seen in talks with Iran in just the last few hours.”
US Vice President JD Vance, along with Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Qatar Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, made statements ahead of a quadrilateral meeting with the US, Pakistan, Qatar, and Iran in Switzerland. Vance stated that 'the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the termination of Iran's nuclear program have already been achieved.' Highlighting their goal to transform the Middle East through diplomacy and cooperation, Vance said, "The question now is, how much more can we achieve together? Can we open a new chapter? Can we permanently change the relationships in the Middle East? Or will we revert to old methods? This is not our choice, but it is a possible scenario."
Vance emphasized that Iran and the Gulf countries have had tense relations for many years, but now they see a future where everyone can work together to promote peace and prosperity. Noting that 'significant progress has been seen in just the last few hours,' Vance stated, "More progress is expected. What the President has asked of us is to open a new chapter in our relations with the Iranian people and to extend a hand that says, 'if your leaders are willing to stop being a source of regional instability and abandon long-term nuclear weapon goals, then the US is ready to fundamentally transform relations.'"
Vance pointed out that they are pleased with the progress made in Lebanon, saying, "We have established great partnerships while working with our friends in Qatar, Pakistan, and Israel. We are all working for regional peace. Of course, there will be disagreements from time to time on exactly how to achieve this goal."
Stating that peace always requires some effort and mutual concessions, Vance said, "President Trump is determined not only for peace between the US and Iran but also for regional peace."
