Syrian President Ahmed Shara said, "We do not want to return to the understanding of military intervention that Syria had in Lebanon in the past."
Syrian President Ahmed Shara, in a statement to the Dubai press, said that U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks were misinterpreted by the public. Shara noted that Trump expressed his discomfort with the war in Lebanon and stated that Syria could play a positive role in coordination with Lebanon. He announced that Syria is ready to take an active and constructive role in resolving the crisis in Lebanon within the framework of its new foreign policy approach.
Emphasizing that new opportunities have emerged in the region with the fall of the regime, Shara pointed out that some Lebanese parties are thinking with the mentality of the old era. Explaining that they discussed the situation in Lebanon during their meetings with Trump, Shara said, "The problem in Lebanon cannot be solved only with bombings, destruction, and migrations. In our meetings with Trump, we emphasized that the war must stop. The solution to the problem is possible not only through military methods but also with economic, political, and social steps. We do not want to return to the understanding of military intervention that Syria had in Lebanon in the past," he said.
Shara stated that it is natural to receive support from other countries in solving the problems Syria faces, and mentioned that they benefited from the support of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Mohammed bin Zayed, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and European leaders.
