Abdirahman Mahamud, Director of Health Emergency Alert and Response Operations at the World Health Organization, made a statement regarding the Ebola outbreak at the United Nations (UN) Geneva Office's weekly press conference. Mahamud stated that the Ebola outbreak in the DRC continues to spread, saying, “The DRC Ministry of Health reported 1,048 confirmed cases as of yesterday, 267 of which resulted in death. This is the highest number of confirmed cases in the first month of an Ebola disease outbreak in the DRC.”
Mahamud noted that the number of beds in 19 health centers has exceeded 500 in the last two weeks, indicating that local health workers have increased their surveillance.
