Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia is ready to resume talks with Ukraine based on the peace negotiations held in Istanbul in 2022.
Russian President Vladimir Putin made a statement regarding possible peace talks with Ukraine during a cabinet meeting. Putin stated that any future diplomatic initiatives with Ukraine must be based on specific conditions, mentioning that the talks should be grounded on the military realities on the ground, the issues discussed at the summit with US President Donald Trump in Anchorage, Alaska, in August 2025, and the principles he outlined in his speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June 2024.
Putin noted that Russia is ready for peace talks with Ukraine based on the agreements reached earlier in Istanbul, stating, "This process should be conducted on the basis of the agreements reached in Istanbul, the conditions discussed in Anchorage, and most importantly, the realities on the ground. Additionally, the principles I laid out in my speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a few years ago are also included."
Recalling that the negotiations in Istanbul were initiated by the Ukrainian side, Putin conveyed that these talks actually contained 'favorable' conditions for Ukraine, but the process ended without reaching a compromise.
