Colombia's National Election Council declares Espriella as president-elect
In Colombia, the National Election Council declared right-wing Abelardo de la Espriella, who led the presidential election held on June 21, as the country's president-elect.

The Colombian National Election Council (CNE) officially announced that Abelardo de la Espriella has been elected president for the 2026-2030 term following the completion of vote counting. Speaking at the ceremony where the results were announced, CNE President Cristian Quiroz emphasized the transparency of the process, stating, "Every request was evaluated, every doubt was resolved, every vote was counted, and once the review was completed, we declared the election."

According to the official results, Espriella, the candidate of the Defenders of the Fatherland movement, received 12.9 million votes, while his opponent, Ivan Cepeda of the Historical Pact, received 12.7 million votes. Espriella will assume office on August 7, when the current President Gustavo Petro's four-year term ends.

Running his campaign with the slogan 'Determination for the Nation,' Espriella promised to reduce public spending and the state structure by approximately 40%, implement an emergency action plan to resolve the health crisis, and end the current 'total peace' policy. During the election process, Espriella also received support from US President Donald Trump.
