According to a statement from the French meteorological agency Meteo-France, June 23 and yesterday were recorded as the hottest days in the country. Temperatures rose to 40.3 degrees in the capital Paris, 41.8 degrees in the city of Bordeaux, and 43.6 degrees in the city of Cazaux yesterday.
Due to extreme heat across the country, a red alert was issued in 72 provinces today. Additionally, the alert level was raised to orange in 48 provinces due to the risk of forest fires, and to red in the provinces of Haute-Garonne and Deux-Sevres. Since June 18, when the hot weather began to affect the country, 48 people have drowned.
