On July 7, Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with a Zimbabwean delegation led by Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Francis Nzwidamilimo Mudenda.
The meeting focused on expanding political dialogue, strengthening interparliamentary cooperation, and enhancing collaboration in education, tourism, mining, agriculture, public service delivery through the ASAN Khidmat model, and other areas of mutual interest.
Bayramov reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to developing ties with African countries, noting that reciprocal visits and parliamentary diplomacy play an important role in advancing bilateral relations. The sides also underscored the importance of continued cooperation and mutual support within international organizations.
The officials highlighted the significance of Azerbaijan's initiatives during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement and the outcomes of COP29 in advancing the interests of developing countries.
Bayramov congratulated Zimbabwe on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term and expressed Azerbaijan's readiness to work closely with Zimbabwe during its tenure. The sides also emphasized cooperation within the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, as well as joint efforts to uphold the principles and norms of international law.
The meeting also reviewed cooperation within the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Bayramov briefed the Zimbabwean delegation on the regional situation, the post-conflict peace process, and Azerbaijan's reconstruction efforts in its liberated territories.
