Criminal acts of former head of Balakan District Executive Power uncovered

As a result of comprehensive operational and investigative measures conducted by the State Security Service (SSS), reasonable suspicion has been established that Islam Vahid oglu Rzayev, former head of the Balakan District Executive Power, abused his official position to embezzle a large amount of property entrusted to him and committed multiple corruption-related crimes during his tenure, the State Security Service told AZERTAC.

It was determined that while serving as head of the Balakan District Executive Power, Islam Rzayev misused his authority to embezzle state budget funds allocated for unemployed and low-income citizens, as well as for repair, construction, and improvement projects in the district. He failed to ensure the targeted use of these funds and also received bribes from officials and businessmen.

Islam Rzayev was detained in connection with a criminal case initiated by the Investigation Department of the State Security Service. He has been charged under Articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement on a large scale) and 311.3.2 (repeated bribery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. By court decision, a preventive measure of arrest has been imposed.

Investigative and operational measures in the criminal case are currently ongoing.
