Italian company conducts geophysical surveys around Momine Khatun Mausoleum

An Italian geophysics company is currently carrying out geophysical surveys around the Momine Khatun Mausoleum in Nakhchivan.

“We are working here in cooperation with a local company. The main objective of the project is to identify and address existing challenges related to the Momine Khatun Mausoleum. At present, we are conducting geophysical studies,” said Mattia Balestri, a specialist from the Italian geophysics company Geostudi Astier srl, in an interview with AZERTAC.

He noted that one of the methods being applied is a ground-penetrating radar system, which enables the identification of underground objects at depths of two to three meters. “Our primary goal is to detect underground cavities and possible water sources,” Balestri explained.

He added that a scanner, another geophysical method, is also being used at the site. “This scanner allows us to create a three-dimensional cloud model of the area,” he said.
