Romania hosts screening of Azerbaijani documentary on women deminers in Garabagh

Azerbaijani director Fariz Ahmadov’s documentary film Silent Steps, which focuses on the work of women deminers in Garabagh, was screened as part of the international Astra Film Festival held in Sibiu, Romania.

An article published on the official website of Romania’s Europa FM featured the Azerbaijani-Polish documentary, which is scheduled for release in 2026.

Screened at Astra Film Cinema on the fourth day of the festival, the film follows the lives of women working in war-affected, mine-contaminated areas of Garabagh.

The documentary highlights both their work during hazardous mine-clearance operations and their family and everyday lives.

In an article covering the festival, Mihnea Golea, a digital creator at Europa FM, noted that the film introduces audiences to the little-known world of women engaged in mine-clearance operations in Garabagh.

The article also emphasizes the protagonists’ ability to preserve their femininity and uphold family values despite the dangers associated with their profession.

The Astra Film Festival is one of Romania’s longest-running documentary film festivals. This year’s program features more than 70 documentary films and over 200 film-related events. The festival showcases works by directors from various countries and hosts discussions on topical social and cultural issues.
