Bahrain Museum of Contemporary Art welcomes Azerbaijani carpets into its permanent collection

The official opening ceremony of the new cultural venue RAK Art Collection, which will showcase not only Arab and Islamic art but also world-class contemporary art was held in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Established at the initiative of Sheikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the venue will function as a contemporary art museum in the future.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Emin Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Azerkhalcha” OJSC and Honored Artist.

Azerkhalcha Chairman Emin Mammadov met with Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony and briefed him on the history of Azerbaijani carpet weaving, its production process, and its development trends in the modern era.

The museum’s permanent collection also includes the carpet triptych “Woman”, created in collaboration with artist Aidan Salakhova and “Azerkhalcha”. The artwork reflects the synthesis of classical Azerbaijani carpet-weaving traditions with a contemporary artistic approach.

During the event, Emin Mammadov also presented Sheikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa with a special carpet woven in Azerbaijan based on his artwork.

The ceremony brought together renowned figures of art, collectors, and curators from various countries around the world, including Jeff Koons, Joachim Pissarro, Simon de Pury, and other distinguished representatives.

The newly opened RAK Art Collection aims to further enrich Bahrain’s art and cultural scene, positioning itself as an important dialogue platform for regional and international contemporary art. The inclusion of Azerbaijani carpet art in the permanent collection of such a prestigious international venue is a significant achievement in promoting the country’s national cultural heritage on a global scale.
