A delegation led by Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan, is on a working visit to Bulgaria.
As part of the visit, Chairman Anar Guliyev met with Ivan Ivanov, Bulgaria’s Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, in Sofia on February 11. The meeting discussed opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of urban planning, territorial planning, infrastructure development, and architecture.
Anar Guliyev emphasized that the existing friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria are successfully developing at the level of strategic partnership. He highlighted the importance of continuing efforts to expand the institute of twinned cities within bilateral relations and to implement joint projects.
Minister Ivan Ivanov, in turn, expressed interest in further expanding relations with Azerbaijan, particularly underscoring the importance of joint initiatives in the sustainable development of the urban environment and the implementation of infrastructure projects.
Within the framework of the visit, Chairman Anar Guliyev also met with Georg Georgiev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. The meeting focused on prospects for Azerbaijan–Bulgaria relations in various areas, regional cooperation issues, as well as the expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties.
Subsequently, an Agreement on cooperation regarding the establishment and reconstruction of the “Shusha” Park in the city of Veliko Tarnovo was signed between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria, and the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo.
It was noted that the “Shusha” Park project will contribute to the further deepening of cultural and diplomatic relations between the two countries. The document was emphasized as being of particular importance not only in establishing the legal framework for cooperation and the implementation of the project, but also in promoting the development of cultural and humanitarian relations between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria.
During the bilateral meetings, Anar Guliyev also provided information on the format, features, and organizational aspects of the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum, to be held in Baku in May this year. He expressed hope for broad participation by the Bulgarian side in the event.
